FAQ's

Yeah, we do have a couple of ground rules, please check out below or contact us if you need further assistance.

We dont have any kitchen facilities. Instead we offer a range of delicious locally made goods to create your own platters and also have free BBQ facilities. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunch, we just ask that all rubbish is cleaned up afterwards.
Each weekend we have rotating local food trucks. Monthly ‘whats on’ calendars will be uploaded on our socials.

Absolutely! We welcome all friendly and well behaved dogs but ask they are kept on a lead and cleaned up after. We have our 2 friendly resident brewery dogs Murray and Boof who are free to run around and some other visiting staff doggos on various days.

We are a ‘Walk in’ venue and do not take table bookings. We have one undercover area which we are happy to reserve for larger groups if necessary but like to leave the rest of our relaxed enviroment open to everyone. We do appreciate calls ahead for larger groups so we can staff accordingly.

We are an easy 20km drive from Renmark. Head up Murtho Road from Paringa for 15km and follow the signs left to Wilkinson Road. You cant miss us! Coming by boat? We are approx 36km from Renmark. Allow 5-6 hours by houseboat and approx 1 hour by larger dinghy/ski boat.

There is ample room in front of the brewery to moor your boat. Please avoid parking in our Marina area as we have 3 houseboats of our own. This is clearly marked. The access up to the brewery is relatively steep and quite a few stairs. If you require assistance please call 8595 8188 and we are happy to assist with a vehicle where possible.

We are a green brewery and despise rubbish and unnecessary waste. You will notice a variety of recycling and rubbish bins around the property and ask they are used so we dont get rubbish floating around the property of even worse into the river. We use all compostable and recyclable straws, plates etc and recycle EVERYTHING we can get our hands on. Please help us keep our land pristine.

We are a family friendly venue and welcome people and doggos of all ages.

We do not condone or accept any lewd behaviour and offenders will be asked to leave where necesssary.

WILKADENE HISTORY

Built in 1859 of locally quarried limestone, the old cottage on the property at Wilkadene was the head station of the old Murtho run. It was run by Edward Meade (Ned) Bagot, the owner of the great Ned’s Corner Station who made his fortune bringing cattle down to Adelaide. By 1860 big stockyards had been built here, and Bagot employed George Critchell as boundary rider. He and his family lived here for about twelve years until tragedy struck in 1869 and again in 1871 when their son and two daughters drowned. Their graves, along with that of their father, George (who also drowned) can be found on land adjacent to Wilkadene.

In the drought of 1876 Ned Bagot’s fortunes crashed and he lost his Ned’s Corner station as well as its Murtho Run, which subsequently changed hands several times. In 1906 Arthur Wilkinson took over the Murtho head station lease, and moved into the house with his wife Caroline on the day they were married. Arthur and Caroline lived in the old cottage where they raised six children until 1913 when they moved into the newly completed homestead now known as Wilkadene. Here they raised another four children including a daughter who died in infancy and is buried in the cemetery with the Critchell family. In the same year Arthur’s father, former owner of Lindsay Cliffs station (now known as Kulkurna) moved into his new homestead now known as Murtho Park.

In the early 1900’s the Wilkinson family ran the two properties until Arthur’s death in 1949 when the property was split between the two sons, Bill and Jim. Under the management of Jim Wilkinson, Wilkadene was a thriving wheat and sheep farm. After his tragic death in 1965, his widow Grace, took over the farm duties with distinction until 1988 when it was sold to the Freeman Family.
